Upcoming TDWI Chapter event in Bangalore

Close on the heels of a successful event in Hyderabad, TDWI takes its campain to the heart of Indian silicon valley, Bangaluru.

The event is on 19th December. Venue is Infosys Campus in the electronic city.

What are TDWI India Chapter Events about?

TDWI India Chapter events generally will include leaders representing Industry, IT Service providers, Captive units, Academecians.

The event generally will have Keynote address, Featured speakers, Panel discussions and fun events such as Quizzes and Raffles.

TDWI's CBIP Program in India?

CBIP is a coveted credential to adorn any BI professionals' resume'. We have been working with TDWI US to bring to India. We would like to know the interest levels for this certific ations in India, so that we can give a projected CBIP certification that can be done based in India.. This will help us work out the logistics for Proctoring, registrations and setting up centres for conducting these tests.

TDWI India Chapter - Report of 2008

The India Chapter conducted 4 events in the last year. The events were held in different cities of India. Details of the events are given below:

1. Mumbai, 01 Dec 2007
This was the very first event. It was sponsored by Accenture and over 20 BI professionals from Mumbai attended. The venue was Hotel Rodas. There were 2 sessions. Vivek Bhatnagar, Director Ingres gave a talk on Data Appliances. Another is a session on ETL-P by Soumendra Mohanty, Head of IM, Accenture.

2. Hyderabad, 17 Jan 2008
Close on the heels of the first event, the second meeting was held in Hyderabad. This was the biggest event with over 80 attendees from all major IT firms in the city. Majority of the chapter officers were present. The meeting started with a case study on BI at Bharti Airtel by Amrita Gangotra, CIO who is also the chapter president. This was followed by a session on Business Analytics by Viswanathan, Professor at the Indian School of Business. After the sessions, we had a very lively panel discussions on Future Trends in BI. On the panel were chapter officers Surya and Anoop along with Ram Chinta, VP Genpact, Ravi Nalluri, COO of Orpine technologies. The panel was moderated by Soumendra Mohanty of Accenture. The venue for the event was the Country Club.

3. Bangalore, 31 May 2008
The 3rd event was held in Bangalore, the IT hub of India. The event was sponsored by and was held in the campus of Infosys Technologies. Most of the chapter officers were present. There were 2 sessions – first by Prof. Shalini Urs, Executive Director ISIM, Mysore on Information Management. The second session was on Hadoop by Chid Kollengode, Director Yahoo! Research. The sessions were followed by a panel discussion on Next Generation BI. On the panel were BI practice heads of Infosys, Wipro, Price water Coopers and the discussion was moderated by chapter officer Surya Putchala. The event was well attended with over 70 participants.

4. Mysore, 04 and 05 Oct 2008
A 2 day workshop on DW/BI and Data Mining was organized for the post graduate students at the ISIM, Mysore. The sessions covered basic and advanced topics including ETL, Reporting, Data Modeling, Architecture, Data Mining and Methodology. The sessions were led by chapter officers Surya and Anoop along with Dr. Radha Krishna of Infosys. The class size was 35 and the sessions were very well received by the students.

Biographies Supplement of the EDW Panel

Jim is a 26-year veteran of the IT industry with experience designing and building large database systems at IBM, San Diego Gas and Electric, and TRW Information Services. He has been a product unit manager in the Windows Enterprise Management Division, and GM of architecture, regional development and database operations within Microsoft IT. He has led the development of several critical applications, and is now responsible for leading the delivery of key data warehouse and business intelligence systems. He has presented information about implementations of Microsoft SQL Server at several conferences and numerous enterprise customers on how Microsoft has developed sales and marketing systems.

Dinesh manages Microsoft Dynamics Practice. He has over 15 years of experience in IT around designing and building business applications like ERP, CRM, and HIS and deploying these applications working with clients across APAC, Europe and US. He has worked with clients in various verticals like manufacturing, e-commerce, utilities, hi-tech, healthcare, banking and financial services. At Infosys, he is responsible for creating micro-vertical business solutions on the Microsoft Dynamics platform for clients in specific verticals leveraging the base capabilities of the COTS package by extending functionality around industry specific processes, workflow, BI and integration.

Balaji is an experienced thought-leader and a certified management consultant. He specializes in bringing a unique blend of strategy, process, technology and change management to drive tangible value to enterprises in their business transformation efforts. He is passionate about extending Information Technology to enable better decision-making. In his recent role, as a BI Competency leader, he is working across breath of BI in further BI as a differentiator for Mahindra Satyam.

Venkat manages the BI practice with responsibilities of Revenue, profitable growth, new customers and initiatives and delivering large programs. He Advocates the use of Business Intelligence solutions to clients enabling them to gain competitive advantage and increase their speed and accuracy of decision making. he has extensive experience across enterprise global solutions for clients in the Retail, Manufacturing, Telecom, Logistics and Technology industries. His experience spans working with clients in different regions and geographies including North America, Europe, Australia and Asia

Sudheer is a quintessential Database engineer. His expertise is in design, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, High Availability and disaster recovery. He has authored two books on Oracle9i with Oracle press. He is an Adjunct faculty at Columbia University teaching advanced Oracle topics (Oracle tuning, Oracle High Availability, Advanced Oracle Administration). He has consulted for many fortune 500 companies in Media, Telecommunication, pharmaceutical, Insurance and dot com industries.

Smit is Head of Informatics for Novartis Hyderabad. Smit also co-leads the Novartis Pharma IT Global BI council . Smit has over ten years of experience in the IT Industry. At Novartis, Smit helped establish the Novartis IT group in India as a key shared services site providing leadership in the space of BI & DW, Software quality & process Improvement, Enterprise Web services, Clinical systems, Document management and collaboration etc. The IT group at Novartis Hyderabad contributes extensively to Global strategic programs in Novartis.

Panel Discussion: EDW Best Practices

Building EDW is a complex under taking for any organization. There have been a lot of debate in the last decade whether it is feasible to build one. The complexity arises in multiple dimensions, Change management, business buy-in, Time taken to realize, Technology and processes required, requirements gathering (frequent changes), program governance and program execution.

About TDWI India Chapter

TDWI chapter (India) specifically enable dissemination of knowledge, improving networking and increasing the awareness in BI/DW in India. Due to the emergence of globalization, Indian IT has built substantial knowledge base in implementing BI Solutions. On the flip side, the adoption for domestic players is rather sporadic. This chapter envisages creating a forum where knowledge of the Indian IT and Domestic Industry can synergize. One of the objectives of this chapter is to advocate best practices and make the best information made available to IT professionals and Indian industry. The object of this chapter is to create a strong community and provide a forum in India for BI/DW Professionals, IT User organizations in India (including Captives), IT service Providers, Academicians to network and Share knowledge and best practices. This group is also used for announcements, soliciting opinions from their members. Chapter meetings are open to any BI/DW professional FREE of charge.
